I am a fully registered and experienced Clinical Psychologist based in the Waikato, New Zealand, having completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2004. I provide psychological assessment, consultation and therapy for individuals and couples in Hamilton and Cambridge.
I am registered with ACC as a provider for sensitive claims.
I have experience of working with a wide range of presenting difficulties, including:
· Anxiety (e.g. worry, panic attacks, phobias);
· Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD);
· Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma;
· Depression and dysthymia;
· Emotion regulation difficulties;
· Low self-esteem;
· Adjustment issues (e.g. life transitions such as divorce, retirement, adjustment to physical disability);
· Suicidal ideation;
· Relationship difficulties;
· Grief & Loss;
· Personality disorders.
I take an integrative approach to my work and draw on a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Compassion-focused therapy, Mindfulness and Narrative therapy.
My therapeutic style is respectful, flexible, collaborative, and warm. I thoroughly enjoy my work and I am passionate about helping individuals to move toward more fulfilling lives. I am committed to achieving the best outcomes I can with my clients and devote a substantial amount of time to professional development through workshops, supervision, reading and peer consultation. For example, in 2016 I completed an EMDR Institute Approved Basic training. Trainings in 2017 included workshops in Neuropsychotherapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Therapy, Group Schema Therapy, and an EMDR Masterclass. In 2018 I completed an Externship and the first part of the Core Skills training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (for couples) and further training in Eating Disorders. In 2019 I began training in Somatic Experiencing and will be continuing this in 2020. My interest in attending a variety of trainings stems from my genuine desire to draw from different therapy approaches to best meet the needs of my clients.
Due to my preferred therapeutic approach being Schema Therapy I have an interest in working with personality disorders, chronic anxiety and depression, and unresolved childhood issues. I also have an interest in working with trauma using EMDR.
I have a particularly strong interest in working with OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention (integrated with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and I am always looking for ways to extend my skills in treating this disorder.
