I am a fully registered and experienced Clinical Psychologist based in the Waikato, New Zealand, having completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2004. I provide psychological assessment, consultation and therapy for individuals and couples in Hamilton and Cambridge.
I am registered with ACC as a provider for sensitive claims.
I have experience of working with a wide range of presenting difficulties, including:
· Anxiety (e.g. worry, panic attacks, phobias);
· Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD);
· Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma;
. Sexual and intimacy difficulties; · Depression and dysthymia;
· Emotion regulation difficulties;
· Low self-esteem;
· Adjustment issues (e.g. life transitions such as divorce, retirement, adjustment to physical disability);
· Suicidal ideation;
· Relationship difficulties;
· Grief & Loss;
· Personality disorders.
I take an integrative approach to my work and draw on a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Compassion-focused therapy, Mindfulness and Somatic Experiencing.
My therapeutic style is respectful, flexible, collaborative, and warm. I thoroughly enjoy my work and I am passionate about helping individuals to move toward more fulfilling lives. I am committed to achieving the best outcomes I can with my clients and devote a substantial amount of time to professional development through workshops, supervision, reading and peer consultation. Trainings in recent years have included:
Completion of an EMDR Institute Approved Basic training and an EMDR Masterclass;
Basic and Advanced training in Schema Therapy (including Group Schema Therapy);
Externship and the first part of the Core Skills training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (for couples) and Level 1 training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT);
Somatic Experiencing (to Intermediate level);
Radically Open DBT (Level One);
Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) training in ERP for OCD;
Pain Reprocessing Therapy;
TLC Virtual Professional Training Program (VPTI) for Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours (e.g. trichotillomania);
Training in Inference-Based CBT for OCD;
Training in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE);
Training in sex therapy through Sex Therapy New Zealand.
My interest in attending a variety of trainings stems from my genuine desire to draw from different therapy approaches to best meet the needs of my clients.
Due to my preferred therapeutic approach being Schema Therapy, I have an interest in working with personality disorders, chronic anxiety and depression, and unresolved childhood issues. I also have an interest in working with trauma using EMDR.
I have a particularly strong interest in working with OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention (integrated with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and I am always looking for ways to extend my skills in treating this disorder. In the past year I have completed additional training in I-CBT and SPACE to complement my work with clients and their families struggling with OCD.
